Love over Fear

FearDorothy Thompson, a journalist in the 1930s, once said “Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live”. Fear can be good to a certain extent, but we cannot let it hinder us from living, and most importantly, from carrying out God’s will. Fear can paralyze us, but love (especially God’s love) is much more powerful than fear. Sometimes we fear what others may think or say; or maybe we are afraid of letting go of old habits. Today’s challenge is to overcome any fear that may be hindering us from living a Godly life.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬ NLT)

Dedicated to life’s fighters and survivors, never lose sight of the fact that God IS in control.

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” (Psalm 34:7 NIV)Angel Encamped Around You

Happy Birthday Elluz!!!!!!

For 3 years I’ve had the pleasure of knowing this wonderful person. I’m grateful for her presence in my life,  through her I have learned very valuable life lessons. Not only is she my #1 fan…literally, I also have the honor of calling her my FRIEND. For this and many more reasons I honor her today….HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLUZ!!!!!

Hate Them With Love

Hate is a burden It’s only human to become upset or enraged when we have been unfairly treated, but the Bible teaches us that the sin is in how we act, “And don’t sin by letting anger control you…” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭26‬ NLT). Demonstrating love is challenging enough for me, so you could only imagine how much more difficult it must be to do so in the place of anger. Yet I’ve learned that love has been the key to overcoming some of the most difficult situations I’ve faced. Had Civil Rights leaders like Dr. King condoned violence, they would not have achieved what they did in the timeframe that they did it in. Bottom line: Love is the most powerful weapon we have.

Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.” (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭20‬ NLT)

Free Sample

Free Sample
As a child, I always enjoyed our Saturday trips to Costco because that was the day when they had free samples. Samples are the BEST!!!! They allow us to taste/try something without any previous commitment. Sometimes samples can provide pleasant surprises. I find God to be such a gentleman. He doesn’t want to force His way in to our lives, so He offers us a commitment-free sample. Let’s take this challenge and try Jesus….who knows, maybe a pleasant surprise awaits. After all, what do we have to lose?

Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! (‭Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭8‬ NLT)

This past Sunday, January 18, 2015, was Sanctity of Human Life day. This day was declared as an observance by U.S. Presidents who opposed abortion. Moreover, in a few days (1/22/15) the March for Life rally will take place in Washington D.C. “The March for Life began as a small demonstration and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since 1973 is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.” (

I know this post is a few days late, but this topic is dear to my heart because I have had close friends who have been affected by this. I don’t judge those who have undergone an abortion, because I don’t know their reasons for making such a drastic decision. My purpose for this post is to shed light on the part of the equation that we most often forget…the unborn child. With heaviness in my heart, I dedicate this poem to them.
The Forgotten

She began to feel weird but had no idea why
A cocktail of emotions flared up inside
“Could it be? When did it happen? Do I have something to hide?”

Things changed, her mornings were ill
But these symptoms would not go away with a pill
She was always dizzy, the room never stood still

She did not do this all alone
So she went to speak with him at his home
But responsibility he refused to own

She asked “What do we do?”
He said “I leave it up to you
But honestly, I don’t want to see this through”

Desolated and in despair
With a man who did not seem to care
The solution she began to prepare

And so came the wretched day
When just like that she gave away
That precious gift that was meant to stay

All alone in that empty room
She felt the decision was made too soon
And before she knew it, life was torn from her womb

Along with life, a piece of her was taken
The entire process left her shaken
She’d hope it was a nightmare from which she would awaken

Concern or regret he never did show
Support he did not give for he was anxious to let her go
And as soon as it was over he was quick to let her know

He wanted it gone without a trace
Because someone else had taken her place
And in his life he had no space

For an innocent whose horrible fate
Was the result of two people who could not wait
And one person who thought she had found her soul mate

So he went on and removed from his mind
Leaving these memories and experiences behind
But her approach was of a different kind

Though this experience made her upset
And it is something she would always regret
She promised her baby she would never forget
