When I was a child (and sometimes as an adult), I held on to the promises made to me, literally taking hold of them. Unfortunately that led (and still leads) to many disappointments. People sometimes say “don’t hold your breath” when referring to a promise that may not be fulfilled, but there is someone I know I can always count on; God. “He never changes or casts a shifting shadow”. He has no shades of gray.

AMEN! Very true. He is the only one without any shades of gray when we refer to promises.
