Black Friday

There was a lot of hustle and buzz

The news spread far, the lines were long

People from all over came, that’s just what everyone does

But they all had an opinion, some right, most wrong

This was a once in a while event

But today it drew more attention

Everyone who could go, went

The place was packed with people, gossip and tension

Black was the Friday when our Savior hung

From a cross where He drew His last breaths

Seven last words He withdrew from tired lungs

Before His collapse and ultimate death

But Sunday was coming with more than expected

Despite what the cross displayed

The plan of salvation remained unaffected

By the events of that Black Friday

It is well…

There is an old hymn which says “It is well with my soul”. In the past days, I’ve spent some time reflecting on this phrase. Things don’t always go the way we plan, sometimes they don’t go at all. However, if we believe what the word says in Jeremiah 29:11, then we must also believe that good will come, we must believe in God’s plan.

When past failures invade the current status; it is well with my soul
When people judge; it is well with my soul
When sadness creeps in; it is well with my soul
When it rains: it is well with my soul
When I’m broken; it is well with my soul
When I succeed, when I’m accepted, when joy takes over, when days are bright, when I’m made new; it is well with my soul because God is in control!

I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. (Job 42:2 NLT)

Rise Up

Dr. Seuss once expressed: “To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world.” Even if there’s only one…it’s worth it, especially when you are doing good, so keep going.

The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40 NIV)

Take it All

Sometimes it’s easy to forget the things that really matter. We become overwhelmed with fitting into a standard set by society; status, looks, titles, material possessions and so forth. Truth is, none of that matters if we aren’t fulfilling our ONE job which is outlined in Mathew 28:19. Like the good book says: For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? I could lose it all but never Jesus, my salvation is so much more valuable.

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.  (Philippians 3:7 NLT)

The Good Wine

In John 2 we find the passage where Jesus turned the water into wine. The MC’s (master of ceremonies) words got me thinking about life. It was customary to serve the best wine first. In this case, the water-turned-wine by Jesus, which was served last, was the best. Sometimes the first part of our day, week, month, year or life is not as good as it could be, but things change when Jesus steps in. Like the wedding in the passage, however, He is waiting for an invite into our heart. With Him by our side, we know that the best is yet to come.

A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!
(John 2:10 NLT)

The Author

The Author took the quill pen and wrote with a smile and a hum

When He was done the words read

“The best is yet to come”.

To My Knight

Take my heart out of this night

Be the knight to end this fight

Give me strength to make things right

Write a future bright as light
