Living with guilt is consuming, you can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t live, but what a relief it is when we get rid of it by confessing. God is all-knowing, yet how many of us have tried to hide our sins from Him and live with the burden of guilt? Is it because we are afraid He won’t forgive us? 1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Let’s be honest, we are only fooling ourselves. One of my favorite Mandisa songs says that God can handle our honesty. Give it a try, He’s ready to listen.
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. (Psalm 32:5 NLT)
