Nonfairytale, Poetry, Tough Love

Life Lessons

Life Lessons

Life doesn’t come with a manual

So I’ve learned as I’ve come along

Life lessons are extremely valuable

They taught me right from wrong

Manners and courtesy are basic

But I’ve learned they go a long way

Useful in all situations and places

Exquisite as fine art, like Monet

Honesty and truth, these two were tough

I learned that honesty hurts once

But a lie hurts forever; that’s rough

Leaving one to look like a silly dunce

Happiness, oh this lesson was good

Money, possessions and people can’t do

What true happiness really could

Happiness like this is found within you

The word “self” is important in self esteem

It’s supposed to be your own opinion

So build yourself high and shine like a beam

Find a reason to love yourself, there are about a million

Forgiveness is the key

to release the prisoner that’s trapped

When I realized the prisoner was me

I knew not how to react

Mistakes, oh my, I’ve had my share of these

They’ve taught me to be human

So that when others fall I won’t point or tease

But rather extend a hand to the fallen and ruined

You are worth more than you can fathom

Don’t easily give yourself away

You are special down to the smallest atom

But not everyone will value you that way

To your beliefs hold on tight

Don’t just follow everyone and everything

Have values and morals; do what’s right

If you don’t believe in something you’ll fall for anything

Life doesn’t come with a manual

So I’ve learned as I’ve come along

Life lessons are extremely valuable

They’ve made me wise, humble, and strong
